Friday TED Talk: Laurie Garrett on the Flu Threat

With the news of the spread of swine flu in the world, I thought this talk by Laurie Garrett from the 2007 TED Conference would be of interest. She starts out talking about the avian flu problem in 2007, and compares it with lessons learned from studying the massive 1918 flu pandemic that led to the deaths of millions.

What you should do after watching this is follow this link to an interview she gave just yesterday about the current threat of swine flu, and what has changed since she gave her talk in 2007. For a biography of Ms. Garrett, the author of The Coming Plague: Newly Emerging Diseases in a World out of Balance, see this link. For a high-res MP4 version of her talk, click here.

  1. It sounds like AIDS on a level that is too fast to fight against!

You can hear it at the final minute of the presentation.
