These posts are intended more as an antidote to the toxic version being served up by Episcopal Life, rather than as a stand-alone treatment of the history of the Lambeth Conferences. Although I am making print versions available, they lack the snazzy graphics and photos that Episcopal Life puts into their inserts. The best way to use these posts would be to include a reference in the Sunday bulletin to the URL of the specific post that deals with the insert for that week, and tell people to be sure to go to that site to read "the rest of the story."A. I'd certainly use them over Episcopal Life.Jody Howardhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14073787540447454650noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-759178030677978044.post-65670714560033029822008-06-07T14:00:00.000-07:002008-06-07T14:00:00.000-07:00Perpetua, I think that coming as it does in the Re...Perpetua, I think that coming as it does in the Report of the Committee on the Union of the Churches in the Anglican Communion, it was intended to be a summary of the essentials that bind us together as Anglicans. At the same time, it preceded the Chicago-Lambeth Quadrilateral by eight years, and so I believe the Report language also had an ecumenical direction to it. What is considered "the essentials of the faith" usually takes a little more length and detail to express: see, for example, the formulation by the Montreal Conference of 1994.A. It is provided first before the discussion of differences and it does use the word "essential".

"I. In considering the best mode of maintaining union among the various Churches of our Communion, the Committee, first of all, recognise, with deep thankfulness to Almighty God, the essential and evident unity in which the Church of England and the Churches in visible communion with her have always been bound together. United under One Divine Head in the fellowship of the One Catholic and Apostolic Church, holding the One Faith revealed in Holy Writ, defined in the Creeds, and maintained by the Primitive Church, receiving the same Canonical Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments as containing all things necessary to salvation these Churches teach the same Word of God, partake of the same divinely-ordained Sacraments, through the ministry of the same Apostolic orders, and worship one God and Father through the same Lord Jesus Christ, by the same Holy and Divine Spirit, Who is given to those that believe, to guide them into all truth."Perpetuahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16632860530530786486noreply@blogger.com
