With regard to Christians and litigation, I believe there's little controversy with the view that scripture suports defending oneself when another's actions place us in a position where defending is clearly an honorable action. Continuing to assertively engage in defensive actions appears suggested for the present. Although I'm not currently engaged in the practice of law, I believe it's reasonable to expect that there may well be a result in pending or future litigation that will redound to the benefit of many, inside or outside ECUSA, and in fact, be a result that is a true blessing. Further, even if present or future litigation doesn't result in a favorable outcome to conservative "entities" within ECUSA, I believe there's a very strong likelihood that ECUSA will increasingly reap from what it has sown and ultimately find itself faced with ever more unpleasant realities from which it cannot easily escape.williamphttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15462159892385010372noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-759178030677978044.post-66423267037469911772012-08-16T12:36:05.509-07:002012-08-16T12:36:05.509-07:00You have provide one of the clearest explanations ...You have provide one of the clearest explanations of subsidiarity that I have encountered so far on the Internet. The concept is given lip-service in the Anglican Church in North America but my analysis of ACNA governing documents--constitution, canons, model diocesan constitution and canons--suggests that the concept is not fully understood in that body, much less applied in practice. There is a strong tendency toward centralization.

In the Anglican Church of Australia certain categories of legislation require the assent of a diocese. If the diocese does not give its assent, the ordinance (the term the Aussies use for canon) does not affect the diocese that does not assent to it. A diocese may, if it assents to such an ordinance, withdraw its assent. It is a concept that I recommended to the ACNA Governance Task Force.

The conservative Episcopal churches and dioceses could form their own missionary conference to establish and grow new churches and strengthen existing ones. It could also establish a co-operative fund like that of the Southern Baptist Convention for the support of missionaries, the training of clergy and lay leaders, the development of educational material, and so forth.Robin G. But it is a short-term strategy, precisely because of the problem you identify. When it comes time for SC to elect its next Bishop, SC will have to have made its choice as to whether it can still work within ECUSA, or whether ECUSA is a dead end.

A lot of what will determine the outcome in this saga will depend upon what 815 decides to do in the coming year about disciplinary proceedings against +Lawrence. As I will discuss in my next post, it could choose to provoke a real constitutional donnybrook which would lead to a replay of Pittsburgh and Fort Worth all over again. Or it could choose the higher road and work with the DSC and the DUSC to achieve a more workable solution that would allow the revisionist parishes in each of those dioceses to unite under a single bishop, and the conservative parishes to remain under Bishop Lawrence.

It would help me prepare suggestions if you could email me with a list of what parishes you think would benefit from such a realignment.A.
