The author deals very briefly with the 1995 Italian tests on the Shroud and the Sudarium, and does not go into the analytic detail that Prof. Tipler did, as I explained and quoted in my post above. In particular, the author dwells on the fact (reported also by Prof. Tipler) that even though the Italian scientists were very careful to screen their samples for "DNA noise" from previous handlings of the cloths, they did not feel confident enough in their results to want to analyze or comment on them.

Prof. Tipler, however, goes on to explain the source of their doubts: he shows how their raw data is consistent with the presence of a shorter X-allele band for amelogenin, but with no longer Y-allele-band present. Since that is the normal genetic signature for blood from a female, the Italian scientists did not want to trust their results, and so left the raw data uninterpreted.

It was Prof. Tipler, however, who was the first to understand that this genetic signature was also consistent with Jesus having been an extremely rare exemplar of an XX male -- which one would expect of a male born of a virgin, and without a human father. The article cited, like the Italians earlier, missed that significant point, and simply calls for more up-to-date tests.

Such tests would certainly be welcome, but given the care that the Italians (members of whose team were responsible for the development of the technique for using amelogenin analysis to distinguish male blood from female, and so were highly competent) took with their laboratory screening of the samples, it is to be expected that a more modern, though just as careful, analysis would probably produce a result that was just as puzzling.A. I was not aware of the correspondence between the stains on the Shroud on one the Sudarium - which I had never heard of before.

This presents some fascinating possibilities!

A Merry Christmas to you and yours. Yours was closest to what I was after followed closely by Lewis. Thank you, again and Merry Christmas!Milton Finchhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06751775714568357428noreply@blogger.com
